Shooting the New York exterior scenes early in production left him questioning his role while walking around in bright yellow tights. Having just departed Saturday Night Live without another gig lined up, Ferrell believed the movie would either launch his post-SNL film career or end it entirely. Fortunately, Elf went on to earn over $220 million globally, becoming a classic holiday tradition.
