There has been a bar since prohibition ended in the 1930’s, first as Sweeney’s, then J.G. Melon’s in the 1980’s, West Side Brewing Company from 1993-2000’s before finally becoming Amsterdam Ale House.
Originally founded by the Dutch, in the 17th-century, the settlement at Manhattan was first know as New Amsterdam before the English took control and renamed it after the King’s brother, The Duke of York.
