Sometimes called the ‘Headquarters of the Revolution,’ the pub was originally built in the late 17th century, and it became famous as a gathering place for notable patriots Samuel Adams, John Hancock, Paul Revere, Benjamin Franklin, and others.
Legend says that it hosted meetings of the Sons of Liberty and was the launch point for the Boston Tea Party and Paul Revere’s midnight ride.
Although the iconic building was demolished in the early 19th century, it was rebuilt in 1976 near the original location.
