President Donald Trump said he had a “really good meeting” with King Charles III as part of a visit designed to reaffirm US-UK ties during a low point in bilateral relations.
The king is due to address Congress, followed by a state banquet in the East Room of the White House, and his speech will reflect the history and depth of the “special relationship” between the two countries.
The visit comes at a critical time in the countries’ relationship, which has reached one of its worst points since the Suez Crisis in the 1950s, with Trump having recently criticized and insulted Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
