The name Tiruvallur is derived from “Tiruevullur,” which refers to the sleeping posture of Lord Vishnu in the town’s Veeraraghava Temple. In ancient times, the town was known as Evvul, as mentioned in the hymns of the Alvars, who were early Vaishnava saints.
