Before the world knew him as Martin Payne, Sheneneh, or the original host of Def Comedy Jam, Martin Lawrence was a Golden Gloves boxing contender in Maryland chasing a totally different dream. This is the full arc: the stand-up grind, the Fox sitcom that redefined 90s Black comedy, the decades-long partnership with Will Smith, and the terrifying 1999 heat exhaustion coma that almost never gets mentioned alongside the laughs. Still performing, still iconic, and in 2023, finally immortalized with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
