In this video I stay overnight in what might be the cheapest hotel in the world, a floating one-star hotel in Dhaka, Bangladesh, costing just 120 taka, or around $0.98 USD.
The hotel floats on the Buriganga River, one of the most polluted rivers in the world, right next to the chaos of Sadarghat Port.
I begin the video trying to find the hotel, asking locals for directions before discovering several boats floating along the river. The first boat is completely full, but the people staying there kindly show me around their tiny rooms, the bathroom and the top deck overlooking Dhaka.
Eventually, I find another floating hotel with a room available. I pay my 120 taka and check into an incredibly cramped room with little more than a bed and a fan.
After exploring the boat, meeting my neighbours and buying everyone some drinks from a nearby shop, I return in the evening and prepare for one of the roughest nights of sleep I’ve had while travelling.
With extreme heat, around 90% humidity and barely any airflow inside the tiny room, it quickly turns into a sauna.
