Whilst on a trip to Florida in March 2016 we visited Siesta Key Beach on the West Coast and the Gulf of Mexico. It took 2hrs to drive from Orlando just in case you were thinking about it! We were torn between Siesta Key and Clearwater as we had read both were good, decided against Daytona Beach on the East side as many had said it was mad in Spring Break and not that good a place anyway.
If you do go to Siesta Key there is SOME free parking but you need to be there early, we arrived about 10.30am and it was rammed full, ended up paying $20 to a hotel nearby who were charging visitors to use their car park.
This really was an amazing beach though, is it the best beach in America??? I don’t know! Its probably the best in FL Florida though.
