My award for the most charming town in the USA goes to this absolute gem of a destination! It’s on a small island amid Lake Huron, off the coast of Michigan.
As many of you know, I’ve traveled extensively through all 50 states (multiple times) and personally, I can’t think of a town with more charm than Michigan’s crown jewel…
📍Mackinac Island
📌 save to your USA destination bucket-list and share with your best travel pals!
So why do I think it’s the most charming?
🩵The island is surrounded by insanely blue / turquoise waters and to get here, visitors ride Shepler’s Ferry from either Mackinaw City or St. Ignace (which is super fun to begin with)!
😮 It gets even better! On Mackinac Island…
NO motorized vehicles are allowed!!
🐴 Guests can get around via: walking, biking or taking a horse drawn “taxi” / horseback riding.
⏳ This car-free paradise invites you to experience life at a slower pace – a destination so reminiscent of simpler times long past (feels like stepping back in time)!
🏰 The famous Grand Hotel is a must visit on the island! Not only does it boast a world record: THE WORLD’S LONGEST PORCH!! But, it’s chock full of history, beauty, art, secret gardens and so much more! It’s also an iconic filming locale (ie. “Somewhere in Time”).
🥾 The island is also a haven for nature enthusiasts – hike to stellar views like arch rock or bike around the island’s 8.2 mile perimeter!
🗺️ Explore historic forts and be sure to swing into Doud’s Market (this is America’s oldest grocery store).
🍫 Mackinac Island is also known for its world-famous fudge that has been a tradition for over a century! Eating the sweet treats on this island is an experience in itself!
… just to name a few!
Don’t forget to add this incredible destination to your USA bucketlist and .. happy exploring! 🫶🏻
