A previous winner of CAMRA’s Pub of the Year, the walls are adorned with murals by Scottish painter Eric Robinson, who based the work on scenes from Charles Dickens for the 1929 refit – The Pickwick Papers for the Pickwick Room and William Hogarth for The Hogarth Room.
It was originally built in 1844, becoming a licenced premise ten years later. After being known as The Liver, The Liver Hotel, The Grapes, and Peter’s Hotel over the years, it was renamed in 1978 to honour Peter Kavanagh who held the licence from 1897 to 1950.
