Mom and dad review best burgers in NYC. For the first spot, we tried Hamburger America in SoHo. I would say the burgers were definitely one of the best we’ve tried if not the best ever even though it got a bit cold by the time we ate it. We tried their most popular fried onion burger, double of course, fries with cheese sauce and vanilla egg cream milk. The patty was so juicy and tender… Kind of reminded me of Shake Shack patty but better without the greasiness or heaviness. Fries were ok, not too crispy but tasted clean like homemade. I was very happy about their gluten-free bun option too.
I read this spot was started by burger scholar George Motz who made a whole Jame Beard winning documentary on burgers of America. During the pandemic, he started to sell Oklahoma-style fried-onion burgers out of his Brooklyn apartment window and then pop ups which eventually turned to a permanent restaurant.
