Kevin Feige’s first ending for Avengers: Endgame put all six original
Avengers in a furnace together. Toy Story 3, but with Hawkeye. The Russos
talked him out of it. That is the least strange thing in this episode.

Marvel named fifteen things to watch before Avengers: Doomsday. This is
number six, the three-hour victory lap, and it comes with homework: the
Encore re-release and its new stingers.

The back matter first. Katherine Langford’s cut scene as grown-up Morgan
Stark. “I am Iron Man,” found in the edit room after a version where Tony
said nothing at all, and the producer who talked Downey into going back to
shoot it. Joe Russo casting himself as the grieving man in Cap’s support
group. The re-release that chased down Avatar, and an Oscar campaign in
twelve categories that came back with one nomination. Then the whole movie,
from the Barton farm to the lake house, with a stop to give the rat that
saved the universe the statue Marvel never will.

Then the Encore. Loki knocking on Peggy’s door. Doom collecting the Hulk.
The TVA watching universes fire on each other until three are left. Tony in
the cave, hammering out a mask that turns out to be Doom’s. Jason has two
theories about what that means, and the second one is that Tony Stark was
never the original. He was the variant.

Next week on Impending Doomsday: Loki, seasons one and two.

X-Ray Vision is Jason Concepcion and Rosie Knight. Three episodes a week,
news on Saturdays, from iHeart Podcasts.
