Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the most details and realistic video games ever made, so I wanted to find out how much of RDR2 world still exists in real life. I traveled across America to visit the real places that look and feel like locations from RDR2, staying in Wild West hotels, eating food from the game, riding horses, shooting classic western guns, camping in the wilderness, and trying to live like Arthur Morgan. At evert stop, Arthur and I will follow the same itinerary. The same hotels, meals, activities and travel. We’ll also track to find out whose vacation is cheaper.
We start in Saint Denis, comparing RDR2’s version of the city to New Orleans, from the French quarter and historic hotels, to cemeteries, saloons, swamps and alligators. It’s crazy how identical this place looks like Red Dead.
Next, we’re going to Cody, Wyoming to recreate Valentine in real life. We’re staying in Buffalo Bills historic hotel, firing Smith & Wesson Model 3’s inspired by Arthur Morgans Schofield Revolver, shooting a Winchester, riding a horse through Wyoming and going to the Cody Rodeo.
After a quick stop camping, Red Dead style, we’ll head to our last stop: Strawberry. Where we’ll stay in a mountain lodge that looks almost identical to the Welcome Centre in the game.
This is my attempt to answer one question: does the world of Red Dead still exist in real life?
