Hot Springs, Arkansas has one of the strangest histories of any town in America.

For generations, people came here believing the thermal water could heal them. Then came the bathhouses, illegal casinos, horse racing, corruption, and eventually some of the most notorious gangsters in America.

Al Capone vacationed here. Illegal gambling operated openly for decades. And somehow, all of this happened in a little town in Arkansas.

I spent several days in Hot Springs talking to locals, wandering around town and trying to figure out how so much history ended up in one place.

And somewhere along the way, the people I met became just as interesting as the history that brought me here.

I’m Jeremy, and I make documentaries about places I want to understand and the people I meet. Most of the time, I have no idea where the story is going until I get there.
