Isabel Sanford, born in Harlem in 1917, pursued acting for years before landing a major film role at about 50 in Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner. She then became a TV icon as Louise Jefferson on The Jeffersons and, in 1981, became the first Black woman to win an Emmy for lead comedy. 🏆
