Perched just a few steps from the castle gate, it is one of the highest pubs in Edinburgh and gets its name from the Battle of Waterloo in 1815.

It was here that Ensign Charles Ewart of the Royal Scots Greys captured a French Eagle Standard from Napoleonโ€™s troops, in an act that would go on to symbolise the victory,

Whilst I was in the pub, I met Cameron who was one of the Bagpipers that regularly performs for tourists along the mile. A former police officer, he was fully kitted out in the traditional outfit.
