A man was fatally attacked by a six-metre great white shark while swimming approximately 30 metres from shore at Sorrento beach. The victim, understood to be a member of the local surf life-saving club, was with a friend during the morning swim when the attack occurred around 10:15am. The incident has prompted concerns from locals who report multiple shark sightings in the area over recent weeks, with questions raised about the adequacy of current safety measures following the removal of a shark barrier in 2020.
