Bareburger has been named a 2026 Savor Honoree for Excellence in Hamburger in Manhattan.
Bareburger CEO Euripides Pelekanos’ parents arrived from Cyprus as refugees in 1974. He was stocking sodas in a Queens deli at age 12 and teaching social studies before he opened the first Bareburger. Bareburger then grew to widespread success, from NYC to Santa Monica to Japan, Germany, Dubai and Toronto.
The Supreme Burger’s origin story, which he introduces by saying “I’m embarrassed to tell you this story,” involved: closing his Brooklyn bar at five in the morning, Euripides would often drop by a McDonald’s on the way home, ordering four cheeseburgers, large fries, and a Diet Coke. Euripides would then open every cheeseburger and stuff it with the fries, and work an onion ring in there too.
Thus, the Supreme Burger, Bareburger’s iconic dish, was born.
