For many people, the most difficult questions after the deadly terror attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, were not about politics, military strategy, or homeland security. They were questions about God, evil and the potential for darkness within religion itself. And for many, those questions didn’t go away.
In “Faith and Doubt at Ground Zero,” FRONTLINE producer Helen Whitney set out to discover how the religious beliefs of Americans were challenged a year after the attacks.
From survivors who were pulled from the wreckage of the Twin Towers to the widow of a New York City firefighter; from priests and rabbis to security guards and an opera singer; from lapsed Catholics and Jews to Buddhists, Muslims, and atheists, this documentary explored and illuminated the myriad of spiritual questions that came out of the terror, pain, and destruction at Ground Zero.
