Housed in a former bank building that was designed in 1924 by architect Andrew Balfour, the pub occupies the grand banking hall.

Its name is rumoured to come from a travelling circus of the Victorian era, whose highlight was performing, drumming monkeys.

A former CAMRA Glasgow’s best pub winner, from 2011, the original bank crest can still be seen above the entrance.
