A base coat is an essential prep step in your nail routine
1. Smooths imperfections: it provides a smooth surface for your nail polish. If you have any ridges or peeling nails, a base coat will fill in any uneven spots or imperfections so your nail polish color can go on smoothly and look better.
2. Protection. It provides a barrier and prevents staining! If you wear dark or saturated nail polishes they can stain your nails, base coat helps prevent stains and protect against yellowing.
3. Longevity. Some base coats are formulated to make your nail polish last longer on your nails.
Bonus: Stay away from nail strengthening or hardening basecoats. They tend to make your nails too hard were they snap easily when you hit them on something. You want your nails to have flexibility, Not to be rock hard.
