One of the most popular seaside resorts in northern Greece is being revealed in front of your eyes. Endless exotic beaches, mythical mountain scenery, fascinating history and yummy culinary experiences will make this summer the best of your life!!!
Nestled on the eastern slopes of the legendary Mount Olympus and overlooking the sparkling Aegean sea, Leptokarya is an ideal destination for families and nature lovers. It has a population of 3600 permanent residents and lies 98 km south of Thessaloniki and 400 km north of Athens. The area around Leptokarya has been inhabited since antiquity, thanks to its strategic location between Mount Olympus and the Aegean Sea, while tourism flourished in the second half of the 20th century due to its long sandy coastline and excellent transport connections. Today, Leptokarya is a vibrant holiday destination while still preserving its traditional Macedonian character.
The church of Agios Nikolaos is dedicated to the patron saint of sailors. This beautiful Orthodox church serves as an important religious landmark and reflects the strong local traditions of the village.
The lively waterfront is the heart of the village. Leptokarya beach promenade is lined with cafés, traditional tavernas, beach bars, and shops. It’s the perfect place for an evening stroll while enjoying beautiful sunsets.
The village’s main beach stretches for several kilometers with a mix of sand and fine pebbles. Awarded the Blue Flag for its clean waters, it offers organized facilities, water sports, and shallow waters ideal for families.
Located a few kilometers south, Skotina beach offers a quieter atmosphere with crystal-clear waters, beach tavernas, and beautiful views of Mount Olympus.
Only 8 km from Leptokarya, Platamon castle is an impressive 13th-century Byzantine fortress that stands on a hill overlooking the sea. Visitors can explore its towers, walls, and enjoy panoramic views of the coastline.
Underneath the castle lies Platamon village with its beach and marina, as well as Panteleimon beach with its famous Gallaria beach bar.
Nei Pori beach features one of the widest sandy beaches in the region, making it popular with families and visitors seeking plenty of space to relax.
And finaly Litochoro, known as the “Gateway to Mount Olympus”. This picturesque town is filled with traditional stone houses, charming cafés, and serves as the starting point for many Olympus hiking routes and the National Park of this mythical home of the Twelve ancient Gods.
Leptokarya’s tavernas serve delicious Greek Macedonian specialties. Fresh seafood, grilled octopus, calamari, souvlaki, moussaka, locally produced olives, cheeses, and traditional pies are among the favorites. Complete your meal with local wines or tsipouro while enjoying views of the Aegean Sea.
