As trade barbs continue between Washington and Ottawa, what could help rectify the historically collegial relationship between the two capitals?
James Blanchard, a former U.S. ambassador to Canada between 1993 and 1996, told The West Block’s Jeff Semple the relationship between the two countries is “the worst in modern history.”
Blanchard called U.S. President Donald Trump’s trade war with Canada “totally unjustified” and said the US-Canada relationship will never be the same.
Jeff Semple also spoke with David Cohen, U.S. ambassador to Canada from 2021 to 2025, for his perspective on the trade war.
