What better way to experience one of America’s most iconic road trips than driving California’s legendary Highway 1 in a red Ford Mustang?
In this vlog, we leave San Francisco behind and begin the journey south towards Los Angeles, following California’s spectacular coastline on the famous Pacific Coast Highway / Highway 1.
With the roof down and the Mustang pointed south, this is about as close as you can get to the classic American road trip, winding coastal roads, the Pacific Ocean, California scenery and some incredible stops along the way.
Our first major destination is Santa Barbara, where this road trip takes a slightly unexpected turn. Rather than checking into a hotel, we stay with one of my viewers! After experiencing a little local hospitality and exploring Santa Barbara, it’s time to get back into the Mustang for the final stretch towards LA.
From there, we continue south to Los Angeles, taking in some of the famous sights and scenery along the route and getting my first-hand perspective as a Scottish guy traveling through California.
I’ve travelled all over the United States, but there’s something special about doing California this way. San Francisco to Los Angeles, Highway 1, the Pacific coastline and a red Mustang — it feels like the quintessential American road trip.
So, is California’s Highway 1 really one of the greatest drives in America? And does doing it in a Mustang live up to the dream?
