On this episode of Chef’s Day Off, Eater follows Chris Hansell of Chrissy’s Pizza in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, as he visits the places and people that have influenced his cooking and helped shape the pizzeria he runs today.
The day starts at Honeymoon Coffee in Ridgewood, owned by Hansell’s friend and bandmate Ryan Naideau, before heading to Jersey City, New Jersey, to visit Rick Easton at Bread and Salt and dig into his Southern Italian baked specialties. Back in Brooklyn, Hansell stops at The Palace bar for his favorite wings and a mug of Bud before ending the day on Long Island at King Umberto, the pizzeria he grew up with, to see how they continue to preserve the old-school New York flavors that influenced him.
