A US official said that both sides will stand down for now and vessels can move freely through the Strait of Hormuz, following a flare-up in tensions that threatened to derail peace negotiations.

Iran and the US agreed to stop mutual attacks, with traffic through the Strait of Hormuz still higher than for the greater part of the war, but decreased over the weekend due to shippers remaining wary of the risks.
