BODA LOVE (2024)
Original Title: Boda Love
Starring: Duncan Murunyu, Greer Dale-Foulkes, Justin Mirichii
Director: Janet Wells
SYNOPSIS:
Charlotte, a lonely British woman, travels to Kenya after a whirlwind online romance, expecting to meet the man she believes is her fiancé. Instead, she discovers that the relationship was an elaborate scam. Her situation becomes even worse when her belongings are stolen, leaving her stranded in an unfamiliar country with nowhere to turn.
Help arrives through Jabari, a humble boda boda motorcycle taxi driver who rescues Charlotte and offers her a place to stay in his crowded family home in Kaloleni. As Charlotte adjusts to the lively household and the rhythms of Nairobi life, she and Jabari begin searching for the man who deceived her. Their unlikely partnership brings comic misunderstandings, cultural discoveries, and a growing sense of companionship. Charlotte is drawn into Jabari’s community, while he gradually looks beyond his own disappointments and guarded approach to love.
Blending romance, comedy, and family drama, Boda Love explores trust, recovery, cultural differences, and the possibility of finding affection in the aftermath of betrayal. Its vibrant Nairobi setting supports a fish-out-of-water story that develops into both a cross-cultural romance and a celebration of found family. The film won Best Soundtrack at the 2024 Africa Movie Academy Awards and received further honors at the Mombasa International Film Festival and Kitale Film Week.
