I travelled to the United States for what became one of the most memorable trips of my life — following Scotland, meeting football fans from around the world and experiencing America as it hosted the biggest World Cup in history.
This video essay tells the full story of my 2026 World Cup adventure in the USA, from the build-up and arrival of the Tartan Army to following Scotland in Boston and Miami, and everything that happened between the games.
But this isn’t just a video about football. As a Scotsman who has travelled extensively in the United States, I wanted to document what America was actually like during the World Cup — and why the experience surprised so many of the Europeans who travelled there.
There were huge crowds, American sports culture, tailgates, packed bars, incredible hospitality and thousands of supporters descending on American cities. Away from the stadiums, we travelled through the country, met ordinary Americans, tried the food and experienced a side of the United States that doesn’t always make it across the Atlantic.
And America turned out to be an extraordinary host.
