Prime Minister Mark Carney delivered remarks to global business leaders at the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) on Sunday, kicking off Canada’s first-ever investment summit.
Hundreds of global and domestic investors with trillions of dollars of assets under management will descend on a downtown Toronto hotel on Sept. 14 and 15.
“Tomorrow, something remarkable will happen. The world’s largest investors, managing over $120 trillion of assets, will come to peer into our shop window, because the world is looking at Canada differently,” Carney said as his government seeks to boost the economy and its trade ties with allies amid tensions with the U.S.
The event is co-organized with the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board and Public Sector Pension Investments, two of the country’s largest asset managers.
Carney has set what experts consider a lofty goal of “catalyzing” $1 trillion in investments in Canada over the next five years.
