It’s no secret that travel hackers prefer Hyatt over any other hotel brand. Compared to other hotels, they are cheaper on points and offer some pretty incredible resorts to stay at not only here in the US but abroad. Hey, I’m Leen with Leen on Travel and I want to share the best Hyatt’s out there that you can travel hack.
(Pause for intro video)
When you get Chase Ultimate Rewards, you’ll probably be transferring most of them over to Hyatt. With a 60,000 point signup bonus for the Chase Sapphire Preferred, you can stay 7 nights in a Hyatt category 3 hotel, 5 nights at a category 4, 4 nights at a category 5 or a category B all-inclusive, 3 nights at a category 6 or a category C all-inclusive, 2 nights at a category 7 or a category D all-inclusive, and 1 night at a category 8 or a category E all-inclusive resort.
Hyatt operates on a fixed-point award chart system. Based on whether it’s peak, off-peak, or standard travel season at that Hyatt, you will know a year in advance how many points it will cost you to book that room. All other hotels operate on a dynamic point award system. The number of points increases as the cost of the room increases. I recommend using the Hyatt Points Calendar to find the best award redemption times. To do this, go to the hotel website that you want and click Book. Put in the dates, but then on your room results page, up at the top you’re going to click Points Calendar. From there you can see that with a little bit of flexibility, you can visit during off-peak times, which vary day by day. Personally, I would never visit a hotel during their peak pricing times because 1) I don’t want to pay peak pricing points, and 2) I don’t want the hotel super jam-packed with people. A crowded hotel is never a vacation for me personally!

Hyatt almost always has a better redemption rate than Southwest, so I personally prefer to book as many vacations as possible with Hyatt’s first, and then use my leftover points to book my Southwest flights.

In addition to transferring your Chase Ultimate Rewards over to Hyatt, don’t forget about the World of Hyatt personal card as well. This card earns you a 60,000 point signup bonus (but with a larger minimum spend), as well as a Free Night Award every single year during your card’s anniversary month. You can also churn this card every 2 years, meaning you can cancel it, reapply, and earn the sign up bonus all over again! You can stay in a Hyatt category 1-4 for free- just by having the card in your wallet! Have your spouse or significant other get the card too, and bam, you have 2-free nights every year for a weekend getaway without even spending any Hyatt points. Add on a few more nights for just 12 – 18,000 points, and you’ve got yourself a free vacation that is very easy on the points.
I hope that helps and if you’re ready to open a credit card, I would be ever so grateful if you would apply using my referral link, which is in the video’s description. And of course, like and subscribe to keep learning on how to travel for free with Leen on Travel!
