From paperwork for small international payments to capital controls and compliance under FEMA, Shah says cross-border business in India can become unnecessarily complicated. These barriers can discourage Indian companies from international trade, investment and collaboration, pushing them to remain more inward-looking.
If India wants faster economic growth, he argues, it needs deeper engagement with global markets, capital and knowledge. But can that happen while Indian bureaucracy continues to make doing business across borders difficult?
