Join a sunny late-afternoon walk through the heart of Manhattan, following 7th Avenue from 33rd Street all the way to Columbus Circle.

We begin near Macy’s Herald Square at 33rd Street and head north through Midtown Manhattan.
The route quickly becomes busier as we approach the bright signs, theaters, restaurants, yellow taxis, and huge summer crowds surrounding Times Square.
From there, we continue north along 7th Avenue through the Theater District, passing some of Manhattan’s most famous entertainment streets. Even at 5 PM, the area is already buzzing as tourists explore Times Square and the city begins transitioning from the workday into the evening.
Farther north, the character of 7th Avenue changes again. The giant billboards gradually disappear, the streets open up, and we approach Carnegie Hall and finally Columbus Circle, the grand entrance to Central Park.
One avenue, several completely different sides of New York — from Herald Square and the energy of Times Square to the elegant streets surrounding Central Park.

🏙️ INTERESTING FACTS ALONG THE ROUTE
Macy’s Herald Square has stood at its current location since 1902. The enormous flagship store occupies most of the block between Broadway and Seventh Avenue and has long been one of Manhattan’s best-known shopping landmarks.
As we head north, 7th Avenue leads directly into the heart of Times Square. Interestingly, Times Square wasn’t always called Times Square. Until 1904, the area was known as Longacre Square. It received its current name after The New York Times moved its headquarters to the newly built Times Tower.
Around 42nd Street, 7th Avenue temporarily shares the name Fashion Avenue, a reminder of the Garment District and New York’s historic role as a center of the American fashion industry.
Continuing north takes us directly through the Theater District, home to dozens of Broadway theaters. Although people often use “Broadway” to describe all Broadway shows, many of the theaters are actually located on the side streets surrounding Broadway and 7th Avenue.
Near 57th Street stands legendary Carnegie Hall, opened in 1891. Over the decades, its stage has welcomed classical musicians, jazz legends, rock stars, political figures, and some of the most celebrated performers in the world.
Our walk finishes at Columbus Circle, where Broadway, 8th Avenue, Central Park South and Central Park West meet.
The circle was completed in the early 20th century and is traditionally considered the point from which official highway distances from New York City are measured.
Just beyond Columbus Circle begins Central Park, creating a dramatic ending to a walk that started amid the dense streets and skyscrapers of Midtown.
