The Ocean and the Outback – A two part road trip in a motorhome from Darwin to Perth.
After outrunning storms through the Kimberley, the second half of our road trip from Darwin to Perth takes us from Broome, down Western Australia’s incredible coastline in search of seclusion, national parks and some of the best beaches anywhere in the world.
Travelling in the off season, we explore remote campgrounds, swim in the waterholes of Karijini National Park, snorkel Ningaloo Reef, spot turtles and dolphins along the Coral Coast and camp above Shark Bay before continuing south through Kalbarri, The Pinnacles, Yanchep and finally into Perth.
Over six weeks on the road, one thing became very clear – Western Australia operates on a completely different scale. Distances are huge, towns are isolated and the landscapes constantly shift between harsh outback and spectacular coastline.
The heat, flies and long drives were all part of the experience, but having places like this almost entirely to ourselves made it one of our most memorable travel experiences.

I’m Ricky Dunn – this channel started as Life Dunn Differently in 2019, when my wife Nat and I left our jobs in LA to live nomadically.
