Welcome to Week 8 of our 12-week tour exploring the best beaches in Southwest Michigan! Today, we’re hanging out at a true local secret: Lions Park Beach in St. Joseph, Michigan!
While most tourists head straight to Silver Beach just a mile down the road, Lions Park is significantly quieter, far less crowded, and offers a much more relaxed local vibe.
In this video, we cover all the details and practical visitor tips for planning your visit:
Location & Park Highlights:
• Location: 1701 Lions Park Dr., St. Joseph, MI.
• Amenities: Sandy beach, lighthouse-themed playground for kids, volleyball courts, shaded picnic pavilion with tables, and full seasonal restrooms on-site.
• Trail Access: Direct access to the scenic DeDe Howard Trail right from the park—connecting you north toward Silver Beach and the St. Joseph River!
Important Visitor Tips:
• Water Safety: Be cautious if swimming, as there are old wooden jetty/breakwater structures in the water near the shore.
• Parking: Convenient parking right next to the beach for $10 on weekends.
• Restrictions: Note that Lions Park Beach is not a dog-friendly beach.
• Crowd Tip: A favorite spot for local family gatherings and sports, so claim a picnic table early on sunny summer weekends!
