A story-first adaptation of Saifedean Ammous’s *The Bitcoin Standard* – the
whole season, start to finish, in eight episodes. Four thousand years of money,
told through the people it happened to.
It opens in 1871, with a shipwrecked sailor washing ashore on an island whose
money is giant stone wheels nobody can move – and with the man whose cheap
explosives quietly destroyed that money forever. From there: why gold beat
everything else that ever tried to be money, the half-century the whole world
shared one standard, the summer of 1914 that ended it, what your money quietly
teaches you about your own future, the century-long fight over who should set
the price of money, and finally a person who does not exist mailing the world
a design for money nobody can make more of – along with the book’s own honest
chapters on what that design cannot do.
This is history and ideas, not investment advice – the series doesn’t discuss
prices and neither does this description. It is commentary and adaptation, not
a replacement for the book.
This is an independent production. It is adapted from and inspired by
Saifedean Ammous’s *The Bitcoin Standard: The Decentralized Alternative to
Central Banking* (Wiley, 2018), but is not affiliated with or endorsed by
Saifedean Ammous or Wiley.

THE SERIES
1. The Stone That Sank: anything used as money invites people to make more of
it – and money that is easy to make is no money at all.
2. Why Gold: everyone who stored wealth in something makeable got robbed by
its makers; chemistry made gold the exception.
3. The World on One Money: the golden half-century the whole planet shared one
standard – and the flaw sitting quietly in the vaults.
4. 1914: governments off gold could pay for war by printing instead of asking,
and the century that followed.
5. The Marshmallow Test: time preference – what your money does over time
quietly teaches you how much the future is worth.
6. The Great Fight: prices are how a society thinks, and the hundred-year
argument over whether anyone should set the price of money.
7. Digital Gold: stone money nobody can sink, gold nobody can mine faster –
the island ledger reborn on the internet.
8. What Bitcoin Can’t Do: the book’s own limits, and why Ammous thinks the
stubbornness is the point.
