Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Greenfield Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram in the Vizianagaram district of Andhra Pradesh today. Built under the Public-Private Partnership mode at a cost of over 5,640 crore rupees, the airport has the capacity to handle six million passengers annually.
It is equipped with modern facilities, including AI-based systems, biometric processing and automated baggage handling. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Union Civil Aviation Minister K Ram Mohan Naidu highlighted the salient features of the airport to the PM.
Later in the day, PM Modi would lay the foundation for and inaugurate projects worth nearly 18,000 crore rupees in the state.
