Claiming the title of the town’s oldest licenced premise, which is said to date from 1690, the surrounding area Is built on reclaimed land so it would have originally sat closer to the water’s edge and been a popular destination for sailors, merchants, and fishermen who moored their vessels next to the pub.
Its beer garden contains an ancient stone-lined well, where legend claims that tossing a coin will grant safe passage across the seas.
