Not named after you-know-what, the pub is in the creative hub known as Summerhall, which was once the Royal School of Veterinary Studies.
The school was established in 1823, and expanded over the next nearly 200 years, before moving to a new campus outside of the city in 2011.
The name comes from the founder, William Dick, who was a former surgical student, before going on to create Scotland’s first veterinary practice.
Whilst many of the original features remain, the pub is also connected to an on-site microbrewery, Barney’s Beer, who cheekily claim to be Scotland’s oldest non-continuous brewery having picked up from where the old Summerhall brewery left off when it was established in 1700.
