One of the city’s oldest brewing houses, with activity being recorded as far back as 1432, its name means ‘At the Vulture’.
Occupying a former burgher house, by the 18th century, it functioned primarily as a brewery with an attached taproom, supplying beer locally rather than operating as an inn that offered accommodation.
When production ceased in 1898, due to the competition with the larger industrial brewery’s that emerges in the 19th century, it transitioned full into a pub.
