Ten countries rated safe for women, and what actually happens to Black women there. If you have ever been handed a “safest countries for solo female travelers” list and wondered why it did not describe your trip at all, this ranking is for you.
Every women’s travel safety index scores gender and stops. Every Black travel guide scores race and stops. Nobody scores both at once, and Black women are the only travelers who have to arrive as both. So this list is not ranked by crime. It is ranked by the gap between the rating a country was given and what Black women actually report on the ground, using government data, court reporting and named institutional sources for every placement. Some of these countries were rated safe and are not. Some were rated dangerous and were telling the truth.
