Established in December 1999, the bar was owned by the Belfast Unemployed Resource Centre, making it Northern Ireland’s first social enterprise pub. It was named in honour of the late poet and socialist John Hewitt, reflecting its deep cultural roots.
It has since been taken over by Boundary Brewing who are Belfast’s first cooperative brewery and taproom, known for its hop-forward and sour beers, and is run by its members, inspired by Belgian and US beer styles
