Located on one off the oldest blocks in New York, Bridge Street dates back to the original 17th century Dutch settlement. It is on the original the site of the Dutch West India Brewery.
When fur trader Philip Geraerdy become the first private tavern owner of the ‘new world’ in 1641 it was called The Wooden Horse Tavern, after a notable torture device of the era.
After changing the less controversially named White Horse the current building, dated to the mid-19th century, has housed cotton dealers, merchants and factories over the years.
Upon the repeal of prohibition, in 1933, the pub was reborn and has been under the ownership of the Gleeson family since 1976.
