Zanzibar Had Other Plans For Us 🇹🇿 (And It Was Worth It)

In this Zanzibar vlog, we ride local dala dalas across the island, visit a hidden chameleon rescue centre, explore two stunning caves and a traditional spice farm, while experiencing what travelling around Zanzibar, Tanzania is really like.

We woke up in Nungwi with absolutely no plan… and somehow that turned into one of the most memorable days of our trip.

After jumping on a random dala dala heading south, we ended up discovering a small chameleon rescue centre hidden inside two natural caves. From there, another dala dala took us to Siso Spice Farm, where we learned why Zanzibar is known as the “Spice Island.”
But getting back wasn’t quite so easy.

After spending more than two hours squeezed into another local dala dala, we finally made it back to Nungwi, only to find ourselves dealing with yet another surprise. We tried to do our laundry before continuing our trip… and the electricity went out halfway through the wash.
No power. No washing machine. No choice but to head out for dinner and hope it would come back.

This is what independent travel in Zanzibar really looks like. No luxury, no perfect itinerary, no polished travel guide—just real moments, unexpected challenges, local transport, and the adventure that comes from saying yes to whatever the day brings.
