The Netherlands has more than 90 official nude beaches, more clothing-optional coastline than almost any country in Europe, and three of its biggest cities sit right in the middle of the best of them. Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and The Hague each do it differently, but every legal nude beach in the country carries the same national sign, so you always know where you’re allowed to drop your clothes. Amsterdam is the gateway city, with wide North Sea beaches like Zandvoort, Bloemendaal, IJmuiden, and Wijk aan Zee, plus inland options like Het Twiske lake and the Zonneweide sunbathing field in Amsterdam Forest.
The Hague is the seaside specialist, with five nude beaches strung from Scheveningen down to Hoek van Holland, all marked with the NFN logo. Westduinpark is the standout, home to the only beach bar in the Netherlands with its own nude terrace. Kijkduin has a lagoon that appears at low tide. Rotterdam turns inland instead, with lake beaches like Zevenhuizerplas and Brielse Meer, plus two coastal picks: scenic, dune-backed Rockanje and the surprisingly charming Maasvlakte. Whichever mood you’re after, one of these three cities has the clothes-free day for it.
